Blackwater Bayou is a southern rock and blues band rooted in the grit and soul of Little Rock, Arkansas. Drawing from swampy grooves, blues tradition, and raw Americana storytelling, the band delivers a sound that’s equal parts muscle and mood—built for back roads, late nights, and loud rooms.
Formed by Kristofer Freeland, Brad Baglio, Chris Tollett, and Richard Friend, Blackwater Bayou released their self-titled debut, Blackwater Bayou, in 2022. Recorded at Granite Mountain Studios and mixed and mastered by Cody Van Scyoc, the album introduced the band’s heavy-groove blues rock to a wider audience and featured the fan-favorite track “The Flood.”
The band followed up in 2023 with their sophomore release, American Dream, again recorded at Granite Mountain Studios and mixed and mastered by Van Scyoc. The record expanded their sonic range while staying true to their southern roots, highlighted by the title track “American Dream” and the blues-driven standout “Cut You Loose.”
In August 2023, Blackwater Bayou entered a new chapter when a lineup change took place, with Ben Sprouse stepping in on bass, replacing Richard Friend. The transition sparked new ideas and led Blackwater Bayou down a deeply creative path. Around the same time, the band began laying the groundwork for their next album, focusing on new material that builds on their established southern rock and blues foundation while pushing their sound forward.
In 2025, the band added Jillian Shackelford on vocals and keys, a move that further rounded out their sound. Her dynamic presence and musical depth added texture, harmony, and emotional range to both studio recordings and live performances.
With their top streaming song “Round Here” continuing to gain traction, Blackwater Bayou stands as a powerful voice in modern southern rock—blending blues authenticity with contemporary edge, and carrying the sound of Arkansas far beyond the bayou.
